Baix Camp, the eastern-most region of the area known as the Camp
de Tarragona, encompasses 695,3 km2 with approximately 150,000 inhabitants
spread over 28 municipalities, of which Reus is the capital. The
region boasts a great variety of profiles, botanical and mineral
features that highlight its diversity.
This region stretches along the extensive littoral plain. When
the sea meets the land, the land gives way to outstanding beaches
only interrupted by the fishing and tourist port of Cambrils. Inland,
the contours climb up the mountain ranges in Prades, Pratdip, Llaberia
or in Argentera; being high enough, the viewpoints give you the
chance to appreciate a large expanse of coastline, where land and
sea intertwine reaching the region's southern-east border.
The climate is mild, like in any area facing the Mediterranean
sea and not influenced by the inland climate thanks to the mountains.
However, these mountains have an impact on the climate of the plain,
especially in winter, when they are covered in snow. Next to the
coastline, in Cambrils, the average temperature is 15.5ºC,
rising to 16.5ºC in Reus and cooler on the top of the mountains
where it reaches 12ºC in Prades. The notable winds are: Mistral
or Seré in winter and in autumn, and Marinada (a sea breeze)
in summer. The heaviest rainfalls are recorded in autumn, which
account for 40% of the total annual rainfall, followed by the springtime
which reaches 20%.
