The Mare de Déu
de l'Abellera hermitage dates from 1570. The building is embedded
in a 1020 metre high escarpment and uses a cave, which had been a
shelter.
By 1484 Fra Bernat Boïl, the first Apostholic vicar in West
Indies, embarked with Christopher Columbus on his second expedition
to America.
It is accessible by car from town on the Vilaplana road. It is also
accessible on foot, following the old path by the hermitages of
Sant Antoni and Sant Roc.
At the hermitage of Abellera, there is a rest guarded area, with
drinking water, barbecue facilities, tables, benches and other services
availabe.
